Personal Branding

personal branding

I spent 90 minutes yesterday working with a client to re-develop his online profile.

He has a gift and purpose he needs to share, and we had to figure out how.

You’re going to get the breakdown here in about 3 minutes…

In the 90-minute power session, we dove deep into his profile pic, banner, username, colors, bio, links in bio, location, and job title.

Each one of these components is crucial to your online persona and it all has to do with understanding the importance of a personal brand strategy.

Does it feel like EVERYBODY is talking about Brand now?

Yes, they are… Now.

A quick story:

About 30 years ago I decided I wanted to make people dance. I couldn't sing and couldn't play an instrument. What I did find was the radio DJ's had this power too, so I dove deep into Mom's record collection and spun my first tune on the family record player.

Soon after I secured a mentor and began to learn for real. But Some of the high-end technical skills of DJing continued to feel outside of my reach. I knew I was never going to be the one entering a skills battle.

So I decided I needed to hit it from a different angle and I chose to work harder on building my brand instead.

  • unique positioning

  • creating incredible relationships

  • delivering impeccable service

Feels like a lot to think about as a teenager but thinking was always my best skill.

Using my unique strategies I was able to perform in over 150 cities, on national television, at major celebrity events, and attain international press.

I can help you create your unique position too: ready to Become a Person of Influence?

What is a Brand?

First let’s get clear on what a brand is not: your profile pic, banner, username, colors, bio, links in bio, location, job title, logo, slogan, tagline…

Wait, didn’t you just say how important those are?

Yes, all of those items are important to building your public persona but none of them are your brand.

Your brand is your reputation.

It's how you people see you. How you make them feel. It’s how people talk about you when you’re not in the room, and it's your ticket to opportunities that can transform your life.

Now consider this, you have at least a dozen brands or more!

You're a parent to your kids, a friend to your circle, a boss at work, a coach, an expert, a resource, an enemy (you are - in someone’s story).

Each role you play comes with its own reputation/brand shaped not just by your actions but also by the perceptions of those who interact with you.

Which brings us to something even more crucial:

Your Internal Brand: Your Soul

Your internal brand isn't just about how you present yourself to the world; it's about how you see yourself.

  • What are your morals?

  • What are your core values?

  • Who do you see in the mirror?

This self-perception is crucial because it directly influences your actions, decisions, and interactions with others.

Your internal brand serves as your mental and emotional compass.

It shapes your mindset, builds resilience, and provides a sense of purpose.

In essence, it's the driving force behind every decision you make.

→Building a Strong Internal Brand

Start with self-awareness.

Identify your core values and ensure they align with your actions and decisions.

If you sense a misalignment, it's a signal to recalibrate.

Action Step: Take 10 minutes each week to reflect on your actions and decisions.

Are they in sync with your core values? If not, identify one step you can take to realign and take action to do so.

Now, let's shift gears and talk about crafting a compelling personal brand for business.

Your External Brand: Your Voice

Your external brand is the public face of your internal values and beliefs. It's how you communicate your unique value proposition to the world.

Here are some advanced strategies to position yourself effectively:

→Consistency is Key

Your messaging needs to be consistent across all platforms. Whether you're website, on LinkedIn, YouTube, or X, your voice should be unmistakable.

Consistency builds trust and makes you memorable.

Pro Tip: Create a brand voice guide that outlines your tone, style, and key phrases. This will serve as a reference point for all your communications.

→Showcase Your Expertise

Don't just tell people what you know; show them. Write articles that solve common problems in your industry, host webinars that offer actionable insights, or engage in social media conversations that allow you to showcase your expertise.

Action Step: Identify the top three questions your target audience is asking and create content that answers these questions in depth.

This positions you as an authority and attracts opportunities that align with your brand.

→Leverage Testimonials

Nothing speaks louder than the words of satisfied clients or colleagues.

Feature testimonials that highlight your skills and contributions.

This adds a layer of credibility and trust that can set you apart from the competition.

Quick Win: Reach out to past clients or colleagues and ask for a brief testimonial. Use these in your LinkedIn summary, on your website, your email signature, or in the body of your emails just like this 👇️

So, are you ready to unlock the power of your personal brand?
